Double page spread analysis 1
I really like how the heading is a quote from the article, this gives the reader insight before they have even absorbed any information. The actual content of the title is clearly a quote spoken by one of the band members hence the speech marks, this instantly suggest that the article is very personal. To a fan this will be very inviting, as they would prefer to hear from the actual band instead opposed to a journalist simply just writing about them. The typography is all in uppercase letters, this adds a sense of excitement, however, it also alludes to more attention and by taking up a large proportion of the page it will be highly unlikely to be missed. The font is interesting and alternative, it has a eroding effect which is common within this genre as it adds edge. Beneath the main heading is a subheading, this involves a brief amount of information which directly tells the reader what the article is going to be about. The bands name is in bold, this is so that anyone who didn't identify the abbreviation written in the main heading is now fully aware of whom the article is about. It then states that the interview is based in 'there recording studio' this immediately shows the reader that it is an exclusive interview and will entail a lot of interesting information.
I find the images extremely enticing. The sepia affect makes them look quirky and retro but also there are no bright colours to deter the readers attention from things such as the headline and text. I like how there are a range of images opposed to one, it is a lot more appealing to the eye and captures many different perspectives of the band. A range of different shots are used this adds differentiation which is key when trying to create an engaging piece. Each band member is incorporated, this is important as it shows the full picture and doesn't seclude anyone. There are not only images of the band members in action, but also in the studio, this is quite personal and makes the reader think they are viewing exclusive never been seen pictures. It is quite obvious that direct mode of address hasn't been used, this makes the images look more natural. this is the case in a lot of 'indie rock' magazines, as the artists are alternative and do not want to be perceived as 'posers'. I like how the images have been allotted around the page, they are almost bordering the text, this assures the target audience to read the text after analyzing the images. The pictures are of different sizes, the background image is more dominant, this is because it is of the lead singer who is the most recognized band mate. The rest are of the other members of my chemical romance, i think the sizing is accurate as it still allows for an acceptable amount of text to be included.
The three colour principle is very obvious on this double page spread. The colour scheme follows the norms of music magazine, especially and indie rock one. However usually white is the most dominant colour, in this case black is, it looks very suitable for the genre. The amount of black on the page create a dark, Gothic atmosphere, this allows the glimpses of red to stand out a lot more. The red has connotations of danger, heat and power, rock artists want to be perceived as risk takers, therefore it has a big effect. The text is written in white as it completely contradicts the darkness of the page, therefore the writing is easily detectable and clear to read. Although these colours are common in the music magazine industry, they are also the colours which are associated with the band through there dress sense and image as a whole.
Convergence has been used on the top left hand corner, it offers a website of which the latest news is displayed on. This is a great way to expand the target audience, due to the fact that some people may not enjoy reading magazines and therefore they can still keep up to date on the web. They section it of from the rest of the page by incorporating boarders, this makes them easily identified. The words 'world exclusive' makes the reader feel they are gaining something from the magazine however it also shows unique the article is. This is a great selling point as the reader will feel that this is there only chance to delve into this private information.
